HSV Jackaroo SE build number 207 is a vehicle I have known about for some time, having previously been recorded by the archive as a surviving example in Queensland.
More recently, the car resurfaced for sale. It has since been sold, giving us another useful update to its history and confirming that #207 remains in circulation rather than disappearing from the surviving vehicle record.
What makes SE #207 particularly interesting is that it is one of only four known SE Jackaroos fitted with the full HSV appearance package from the factory.
Although the SE evolved directly from the 1993 HSV Jackaroo, the regular production cars were toned down considerably. Most SEs retained the HSV-developed body components and wheels but did not leave the factory carrying the complete HSV exterior treatment seen on the earlier 1993 model.
Build #207 is different.
This vehicle received the HSV kit from new, making it one of a very small group within the already limited production run of 234 HSV-built Jackaroo SEs. That gives the car an unusual place in the history of the model and makes documenting its survival particularly worthwhile.
When #207 appeared for sale, the vehicle was not without mechanical problems. Its gearbox had failed, and the car was being sold requiring transmission repairs. Despite that, it remained a largely complete example and, importantly, retained the features that distinguish it from the majority of surviving SEs.
The vehicle has now found a new owner.
For the archive, the sale is a positive outcome. Cars requiring major mechanical work can easily become parts vehicles, especially when their historical significance is not widely understood. With #207 now sold, there is at least another opportunity for this unusual SE to be repaired and preserved.
